Screeninig of the movie- Children Of God

Street kid taking a picture

Firstly I got an invitation for party for fundraising for second tea party for street children. It was Maharjan Juju who has been working with street kids from a long time. Actually I wanted to help him; I knew he was doing a great work. So I decided to participate in the fund raising program but it costs Rs. 350 for the party, being the student it was hard for me to effort. So I decided to have suggestion from my friends who were also interested to help the team, but the money was the main matter. So we decided, we will collect Rs 100 from each of us, and participate in the program but not eat and drink anything. Soon I got to know that, while we enter the party, if we did not eat also they have to pay minimum costs. So we couldn’t help the team. I was feeling bad because I was not able to help him.

Finally we got an idea, if we show the movie of Street children among the college students, then we will have lots of participants, as per their wish they can contribute us, like we planned a student one day expenses for the street kid food. So we few of friends decided to talk to college management (Kathmandu Engineering College) for their help for the program. The college management shows a great enthusiastic for the program.

Helping Hand an organization of students which has been working for social welfare, was ready for the help. {Helping Hand Members, Heart Beat members}We were ready for the screening the movie of Children of God, and our few plans got changed. We decided to escape the part of fund issues; rather we focus for interaction program where we can create a bridge for building a relationship for Street kids and students. We finally decided to do a program for three day, two days for college students and one day for the youths, teachers and interested candidates from different arena.

Street kid Sharing Street Experience
Heart Beat is a Non Government Organization working for youth related problems, women prisoners, Street kids, improving the life of the kids at the prison, creating a platform for interaction with rural and urban youths. From past few months, it is running a campaign for supporting street kids, Tea for Free, every Tuesday early in the morning. It has supported to the children who wants to uplift their life from street and live a respectful manner. It performs different experiments and respects their feelings. For example, few children were interested at photography, they taught photography to them, and they are now good street photographers, but still they are at street, they love their street life, street freedom. The best part is addiction, as they are addicted to glue they can get addicted to music in similar way, Music and dance may be a greater part of addiction for them to make them free from addiction of Glue. It is really hard to bring them to social life, but it takes time. They are developing the brotherhood relationship with them.

Our objective of program was to show the reality of Street life, share the experience of Street kids from their own mouth, interact with youths regarding street issues, and share the experience of the team members who has been working with street kids. We want to build a bridge for building a relationship between street kids and people. We have heard and listen a lot about street kids, but we are not interacting with them. They are wild, and it is difficult to interact with them. We want to create a platform for interacting with these street kids. They need love; care and we want to help them.

We were success at our motive. Around 300 people participated in the program, raised the street problem, discuss about their roles for helping street kids. We were success to change the negative concepts of the street children.
